No. 59

Today, I’d write in a different tone.

Even before we started up a project for Pokemon
Diamond & Pearl, I was determined to create the
ultimate version of all.
And even then I knew it in my bones that
‘to create the ultimate Pokemon, it is crucial
that many staff cooperate with each other
and have a unified focus.’

For that purpose, I made a project summary for
our staff about this project.
Well, this is somewhat a difficult subject…
But I’d like to show you some parts of the text
used in it.

ーーーーーーーーーーーーー

Creating a fun game is not enough.
Tell no lies, and tackle the project with faith.
A new challenge.
The power to create from nothing.
And the eagerness to make every detail right.

We will draw the world of tomorrow,
the world of distant future,
on a blank paper called Pokemon.
An ideal world. Also, an ultimate world.

Hoping that people of all countries will
shake hands with each other,
hoping for the world of happiness, world
full of love,
we chose
“Pearl,” a symbol of happiness, and
“Diamond,” a symbol of love.

To the next world, to the next stage.
no matter how difficult it is,
let’s run together
in oder to create a new world.

ーーーーーーーーーーーーー

So I’ve been running with the greatest staff!

In a few days the new game will be available
to you. Pre-orders start today.

We at Game Freak tried our best to fill

“Pokemon Diamond”
“Pokemon Pearl”

with ‘fun,’ ‘excitement,’ ‘dream,’ and ‘adventure.’

Please give it a try.

See ya.

Pokemon “Diamond & Pearl” is creating an excitement
everywhere!
For instance, such events as Pokemon Jangle Tours
and Stamp rally at JR (Japan Railways) stations are
being held, and 150 playable Pokemon Diamond & Pearl
demo machines are installed at Tokyo International
Forum to try out the new game!

I hear there’s a big advertisement of “Diamond & Pearl”
at the stairs of JR Yamanote-line stations, too.
(actually, I haven’t seen any of them myself yet…)

This summer too, I’d like to have something like
a ‘matsuri’ (which means ‘festival’ in Japanese).

Every time there’s a plan for a Pokemon event,
I ask myself if it’s going to be a ‘matsuri’ or not?

My view of Pokemon.
It’s a strange world of fun where you can
connect with other people.
It’s very much like a ‘matsuri.’

Let me explain in what ways…

In a ‘matsuri,’ you can develop a bond with people
not only you’ve already met but with friends of
your friends, and you also have a chance to
talk to total strangers.
A ‘matsuri’ is such a strange place where
you can expand your relations in
an extraordinary way.

This year too, I’d like it if Pokemon could provide
an opportunity for people to meet lots of
other people, with an emphasis on the theme
of ‘matsuri.’

That way, people start to make connections.
That way, we can turn the world into a big ‘matsuri.’
That way, we can create peace all over the world.
That’s my vision.

Please go out and have a great time in your ‘matsuri.’

See ya.
